Can I apply Harbor Guard coatings myself?

Harbor Guard is a professionally applied coating. It is possible to go through training with Harbor Guard staff and develop the skill to apply the coating. Inquire through the website. contact us

Can Harbor Guard go over wax or ceramic coatings?

No. Harbor Guard will not stick to ceramic coatings, wax, oily surfaces and those covered in Grease. Our Technical Data Sheet can be downloaded from the website to review the proper surface preparation prior to applying Harbor Guard.

Are there any restrictions to maintaining Harbor Guards finish like there are with Ceramic Coatings?

Ceramic coatings are very sensitive to soap PH, washing in the hot sun, and soaps that contain wax or other harsh chemicals. The use of these products can quickly destroy an expensive ceramic coating. Harbor Guard is bullet proof for any method of cleaning. You can even clean it with acetone, and it won't affect the finish.

How many coats are needed when using Harbor Guard?

In most cases just one. Harbor Guard is very thin and once a surface has been properly prepared one coat is all that is necessary. In heavily oxidized paints some variation in absorption may occur where a second coat will be necessary for a uniform finish. Download the Harbor Guard Technical Data Sheet for further assistance.

Will Harbor Guard fill in scratched or dings in my gelcoat?

Harbor Guard is topographic in that it will adhere to the profile of the substrate and leave a gloss finish. Sometimes in older paints and gelcoats Harbor Guard will highlight the surfaces imperfections although they will now be sealed off from the elements. Harbor Guard preserves whatever state of finish is desired after proper preparation of the surface.

Do I need to apply wax over Harbor Guard?

No. Harbor Guard is the last coat over a properly prepared substrate.

Will Harbor Guard peel or flake?

If the surface has not been properly prepared in removing all waxes, silicates, grease and oil - Harbor Guard may peel or flake as the covalent bond was not established with the surface. In addition - Harbor Guard may be rejected by the surface or in a second coat application due to polarity differences. Download the Harbor Guard Technical Data Sheet for further assistance. If Harbor guard is applied correctly, it will never peel or flake.

How can I remove Harbor Guard?

Harbor Guard is not designed to be removed. When properly applied Harbor Guard protects and seals off the substrate from the elements producing a long lasting smooth clear finish for five plus years. Chemicals cannot remove the coating. If you make a mistake, you can remove with acetone while still wet.

Harbor Guard will first launch to the USA market in October 2024. It will be rolled out internationally in the second half of 2025.
